Cable Television: Watch At Your Own Risk

Sometimes watching Discovery Health makes me wonder if there really is no God.

Tonight’s bizarre medical condition has been brought to us from Egypt.  It’s the story of a little girl named Manar Majed who was born with two heads.  Not only was she born with a second head growing out of the top of her own, but that head had its own brain and thus its own consciousness. It had no body, no heart, no other nervous system.  Just a head that cried while Manar slept.  It smiled at the doctors and nurses in the hospital.  It was capable of having emotions independent of Manar.  It was alive.  It cried and laughed.  Can you imagine seeing that?

The head had a fully formed brain that survived from the functions of Manar’s body.  Being what’s considered a parasitic twin, the head’s existence was putting Manar’s life at risk.  Her heart failed six times trying to support the extra life.  A decision had to be made to separate the two.  In spite of the fact that this head was clearly conscious and developing its own personality, in order to save Manar’s life it had to be killed.

Sheesh.

Perhaps I should have opted for another Roseanne rerun before bed instead of this.

Amazing. Really helps put things in to perspective. Time for some Nick at Nite now, for sure!
